PORTUGUESE Wine Store
Adega Mayor is located in the Alto Alentejo region of Portugal, in Campo Maior, close to the Spanish border.
It was in this region, with a Mediterranean ecosystem and strong vineyard and olive tree tradition, that the dream of Commander Rui Nabeiro was born.
Its proximity to the Serra de São Mamede, granite soils and temperate climate contribute to the unique character of its wines.
Adega Mayor stands in the Argamassas Estate, in a carefully studied place, compared and chosen as suitable for quality grape production. The vineyard is oriented N-S.
The land has a clay-rich soil with a suitable percentage of limestone. They focused on planting red varieties such as Trincadeira, Castelão, Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah and Touriga Nacional, and white varieties such as Antão Vaz and Verdelho.
Adega Mayor stretches over a 350 area of cork oak, riparian galleries and agricultural fields.
On top of the panoramic terrace, in the skyline, we can see the vine and the olive groves of the estate and also Spain and the mountain of Portalegre. With a contemporary look one can reinvent the art of good living.
It was in this landscape that the architect Siza Vieira applied his trait - simple, purified, essential. These were the lines that gave life to the Adega Mayor.
A world-wide architectural reference that distinguishes and elevates a wine heritage of the Alentejo region. A building with its ability to integrate simplicity and merge with the landscape.
Inside there are large spaces dedicated to production and storage, with rooms that invite the wine tasting and the conversations they inspire.
